Green spaces and parks are common throughout the area, with Anglers Country Park and Haw Park Wood both Green Flag Award winners. Grade II-listed Friarwood Valley Gardens are picturesque all year round and celebrate an awe-inspiring lantern festival every October.

The famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park is just 20 minutes drive from Wakefield. Winner of the ArtFund Museum of the Year Award 2014, this stunning outdoor art gallery showcases work from both British and international artists, and features the iconic Lady-Hare.
